Frontier GeoSciences Inc. is an advanced research and analytical laboratory specializing in the determination and characterization of mercury and other trace metals in the environment.
Frontier GeoSciences is located in downtown Seattle, featuring a modern facility as well as state-of-the-art instrumentation. We have a variety of environmental scientists, laboratory technicians and administrators with a broad range of academic and environmental disciplines. Our scientists allow us to provide inventive techniques and customized methods to solve the most complex analytical issues.
Our Research and Analytical Laboratory Services include:
- Mercury Lab - For analysis of trace level mercury in water, solids, tissues, hydrocarbons and air; monomethylmercury in water; dimethylmercury in water and air; and mercury in wet deposition samples.
- Mercury Deposition Network (MDN) – We coordinate the collection and analyze all rainwater (wet deposition) total and methyl mercury samples for the MDN program as parts of the National Atmospheric Deposition Program (NADP).
- Flue Gas Diagnostics - We developed a superior method for measuring mercury speciation in flue gas and other emission sources. We test, diagnose, and recommend mercury control technology for any kind of industrial facility.
- Appendix K – Frontier GeoSciences co-developed the method adopted under the Clean Air Mercury Rule (CAMR) for the regulation of mercury emission from coal-fired power plants. We offer a turn-key package of equipment, service, training, analysis and reporting that is compliant with CAMR Appendix K.
- Our lab methods include:
- Trace metals and speciation of Se, As, and Cr analysis by inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).
- Se and As analysis and speciation by hydride generation - atomic fluorescence spectrometry (HG-AFS)
- As speciation by hydride generation cryogenic trapping gas chromatography atomic absorption spectrophotometry (HG-CT-GC-AAS).
- Preparation Lab provides following services - filtrations, digestions, leaching procedures and general wet chemistry, including a high pressure asher for digestion of hydrocarbons.
- Receiving Lab - A 1,000 ft2 state-of-the-art, all-plastic, Class-100 bottle washing and storage area and a dedicated Class-100 room for shipping and receiving.
