Mercury Sorbent Traps

Frontier offers the most thoroughly tested and proven performance sorbent traps in the industry. All of this AND we are less expensive than our competition!

The growth of mercury regulations in the 1990's amplified the drawbacks of existing mercury monitoring approaches. In responseappendix-k-trapsto these challenges, Frontier developed and validated a novel mercury detection system based on a proprietary, chemically impregnated carbon sorbent trap that has become the industry gold standard for flue-gas mercury measurements. Using our Flue-Gas Sorbent Total Mercury (FSTM) traps, taking mercury measurements has never been more rapid, sensitive, and reliable.

Frontier Geosciences offers a variety of mercury sorbent traps designed to meet our clients mercury monitoring needs. Our traps

have been successfully applied to a host of different applications:

  • EPA Method 30
  • EPA Method 324 / Appendix K
  • Ambient Air Monitoring
  • CEMS Relative Accuracy Test Audits (RATAs)
  • Bench-level Research & Development
  • Mercury Speciation Projects

We have been providing sorbent traps and analytical services to coal utility and other clients for the past 17 years. Our traps and analytical methods (based on wet acid digest / US EPA 1631) have undergone more validation, intercomparison, and performance testing than any other sorbent traps and analytical methods available to the industry.

Benefits of our traps include:

  • Low detection limits - as low as 0.193ng/trap
  • High purity, low-blank sorbent material
  • High precision results, perfect for paired trap sampling
  • Speciation of mercury (Particulate, Hg(II), Hg(0))
  • NIST-traceable spiking
  • Each trap uniquely numbered for traceability
  • Captures all species of gas phase mercury
  • Can handle flow rates from 0.1 to 4.0+ standard liters / minutes (SLPM)
  • No temperature constraints (ambient to 1000° F)
  • No interference from SO2/ NOx/ash
  • Sampling times from 15 minutes to 10 days
